CAPTURE YOUR FAV SMELLS IN CAMERA

A new camera has been developed that can capture the whiff of your first pet or the smell of the seaside holiday.
Designer Amy Radcliffe's MA project at Central Saint Martins set out to bring a more meaningful sensory dimension to storing our favourite memories.
What if you could recapture the aroma of that freshly baked birthday cake, or the scent of the wild flowers in that Alpine meadow on your last holiday? Or maybe you would choose to recall the musky pong of your first pet, or the comforting whiff of that shampoo your girlfriend used to use?
The Madeleine - named after Marcel Proust's story of involuntary memory prompted by biting into a cake - is Radcliffe's design for a new kind of camera that records not images, but smells.
Her project, developed in the college's Textile Futures department, draws on "headspace capture" techniques pioneered in the 1970s by Swiss fragrance chemist Roman Kaiser, for obtaining the composition of rare botanical scents for the perfume industry.

GOOGLE WORKING FOR ANDROID GAMING CONSOLE AND SMARTWATCH

The Android powered gaming console would give access to content available on Android.

Google, after dominating the smartphone and tablet market with Android, is now working on doing the same for gaming consoles as well. As reported reported, Google is developing an Android powered gaming console that would offer users the opportunity to play Android games right on their big screen televisions.
However, the device is expected not to be very different from the Android powered micro-computers presently available in the market. But since the device would be made by Google advanced features and support for external controllers and other devices is expected.

GALAXY S4 GOOGLE EDITION: 5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Google finally put the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus, also known as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition, up for sale on the Google Play Store alongside the HTC One Nexus. The device is an intriguing device for those that are in the market for a new device, however those who have been eying it should be aware of several of its properties before taking the plunge.
At Google I/O 2013 in San Francisco, Google took the curtain down from around a new Nexus smartphone. It wasn’t the Nexus 5 or the white Nexus 4, the latter of which made its debut a few weeks ago, but a new Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition that carries features of Google’s Nexus smartphone, the Nexus 4, and thus, its Galaxy S4 Nexus name.
Like its non-Google Edition brother, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Nexus is a device that is worthy of a look, not just from Android enthusiasts but from average consumers as well.
The device boasts many of the same features of the current Samsung Galaxy S4 including a 5-inch display that features 1080p resolution, a quad-core processor that can handle gaming and multitasking, a 13MP camera that performs admirably in low-light environments, and of course Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Of course, the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board the Google Edition is far different than the Jelly Bean found on the regular Galaxy S4 as its virtually vanilla in flavor.

CONTROL ANDROID AND APPLE USING BLACKBERRY

BlackBerry launched a service on Tuesday allowing government agencies and corporate clients to secure and manage devices powered by Google Inc's Android platform and Apple Inc's iOS operating system.
The long-anticipated offering, which BlackBerry had said would come out around mid-year, could help the company sell high-margin services to its large clients even if many, or all, of their workers are using smartphones made by its competitors.
The new Secure Work Space feature will be managed through BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10, a new back-end system launched at the start of this year that allows BlackBerry's clients to control mobile devices on their internal networks.
The company, a one-time pioneer in the smartphone arena, is now fighting to regain ground lost to Apple's iPhone and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's Galaxy devices. To compete, it has rolled out a trio of devices powered by its new BlackBerry 10 operating system.
It hopes to win back users with the Z10, Q10 and Q5 devices that were unveiled during the first half of this year. The first comprehensive look at the success of its turnaround plan will likely emerge when it reports quarterly results on Friday.

AGE OF EMPIRES COMING TO ANDROID

Microsoft Corp will offer its popular “Age of Empires” game for Apple Inc’s iPhone and other smartphones through a tie-up with Japan’s KLab Inc, seeking to capture growth in a booming mobile game market.
Microsoft’s gaming business is dependent primarily on its Xbox franchise but mobile devices have been eating into the gaming industry, luring consumers away from traditional consoles.

While the tech giant has released a few mobile games for iOS and Android like Wordament, “Age of Empires” is its most popular game to date to be offered beyond its own consoles.
The strategy is one that analysts argue other game machine makers such as Mario Brothers creator Nintendo Co Ltd could consider in a bid to leverage their software assets.

SONY LAUNCHED WATERPROOF SMARTWATCH 2 AND SMARTPHONE

Sony has launched the SmartWatch 2, an update of its Android-based watch, while the competition still seems largely to be in development mode. The company is also hoping to attract users that want a smartphone with a really big screen with the 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra.
Smart watches have been in the spotlight recently, with reports that Apple, Google and Samsung are all working on products. But Sony is already offering a third-generation device in this category with the SmartWatch 2, the company said on Tuesday at the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai.
The SmartWatch 2’s water- and dust-resistant body is made of aluminium and has integrated support for NFC. The watch has a 1.6-inch screen with 220 x 176 pixel resolution, a slight improvement over the previous SmartWatch, which had a 1.3-inch screen with a 128 x 128 pixel resolution, and Sony also promises improved battery life. The SmartWatch was preceded by the Sony Ericsson LiveView, which the company described as a wearable wireless micro-display.
Sony pitches the SmartWatch 2 as a second screen for Android-based smartphones. Compatibility has been improved over the previous generation, and the device should be compatible with most smartphones based on Google’s OS, according to Sony. It serves as a multi-functional watch, Android app interface and phone remote control. On the screen users can read email, text messages and calendar reminders. It is also integrated with social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. A new SDK will soon be available for app developers, with added support and new features for the SmartWatch 2.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NX 20.3 MP CAMERA WITH ANDROID 4.2

Samsung released its first Android-based camera late last year, but that seems to have been merely a test run. The Galaxy NX Camera has just been detailed, and it has the entry model version beaten in just about every way. As part of Samsung’s NX line it’s first Android camera with interchangeable lenses, but the surprises don’t stop there.
From the front, this device could almost be mistaken for a DSLR, but from above it’s clear this is a different animal entirely. Whereas the mega-bizarre Galaxy S4 Zoom is really just a phone with a mid-range point-and-shoot grafted on, the Galaxy NX Camera is a high-end mirrorless camera with all its non-photographic electronics replaced with an Android device.
The back screen is a 4.8-inch LCD touchscreen at HD resolution. Presumably that means 720p in this context, but Samsung wasn’t more specific. Samsung loves AMOLED screens, but the decision to go with an LCD is advantageous for a camera. AMOLEDs tend to have very blown-out colors, and to wash out in direct sunlight. Those are things you definitely don’t want a camera to do, so an LCD makes sense. There is also an electronic viewfinder right above the screen with a resolution of 800×480.

HTC BUTTERFLY S

After launching the HTC One with an Ultrapixel camera, which prove to be more of a bane for the Taiwanese phone-maker than a boon, HTC has now unveiled HTC Butterfly S.
HTC Butterfly S, the next-gen version of their HTC Butterfly device, was unveiled on HTC’s home turf in Taiwan. The phone definitely shows a strong progress report card when compared to the predecessor HTC Butterfly.

HTC Butterfly S is a 5-inch phablet and comes with Super LCD3 capacitive touch screen. The display is fully HD and boasts of a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. Needless to say, the phone comes with the latest version of HTC Sense UI (version 5).

SAMSUNG S4 MINI

If Samsung's Galaxy S4 is more smartphone than you think you need, the electronics giant has just offered up the smaller, more midrange - and surely cheaper - Galaxy S4 Mini.
Samsung is hoping to give its lighter smartphone much of the same GS 4 taste with just a little less vigor. Although the Mini has stepped-down specs compared to its flagship family, like a lower-resolution screen and an 8-megapixel camera instead of a 13-megapixel shooter, it's no slouch when it comes to the Galaxy S4's core features, even a built-in TV remote control.
As with the Galaxy S3 Mini that came before, this version is aimed more toward the mass market than the high-end sector, without sacrificing too many of the superphone's more defining features.
Launch and Price
With the Samsung galaxy S3 launching for €300 (Rs 23,300), it's hard not to expect the S4 variation to launch at the same price. This could be bit too expensive given the specifications and strong competition for mid-range Android phone. We'll have to wait a bit longer to find out - UK event scheduled for June 20 likely to give us more information. According to the sources, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini will be launched in India on 30th July 2013 and will be priced at Rs 24,000 (approx).

VIDEO COMES TO INSTAGRAM

Step aside, Vine: 15-second videos are coming to Instagram on iOS and Android, complete with basic editing, filters, and stabilization. Announced at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park on Thursday, video on Instagram is an expansion of the formerly photos-only sharing service, and brings videos straight to Instagram's feed. "It's the same Instagram that we know and love, but it moves," said Instagram's cofounder and CEO Kevin Systrom.

Systrom explained that the tool is simple and fits right in the Instagram feed, still offers the same beautiful imaging tools, and will help expand the Instagram community. Users can record and share video from right within the same Capture screen they already use to shoot photos. Videos can be up to 15 seconds long total, recorded in segments by holding down the capture button, much like the 6-second videos on Vine. But Instagram improves upon Vine by letting you highlight and delete the last segment you recorded, without having to trash the entire video and start over.

WORLD'S SLIMMEST SMARTPHONE: HUAWEI ASCEND P6

The device has emerged: Huawei’s newest smartphone is the world’s thinnest, and the big H can once again claim a victory (in at least that respect). Here the Huawei Ascend P6 works with a 6.18mm thin body and a 4.7-inch display with a 1.5GHz quad-core processor under the hood. Inside also is a unique version of Android created specifically for this device by the folks at Huawei – and what’s that? A 5-megapixel camera on the front? This machine is extremely light as it is thin – just 120g while its body is made so small you’ll have more of a chance of loosing it in your billfold than you will having trouble finding a place to keep it. Inside and under Huawei’s customized user interface you’ve also got Android 4.2.2 right out of the box, too. This device works with in-cell LCD screen technology as well as MagicTouch sensitivity. This MagicTouch brand name sticks with Huawei devices and means you’ll be working with “enhanced screen responsiveness” – even while wearing gloves in the winter. This device also works with Automated Discontinuous Reception (ADRX) and Quick Power Control (QPC) battery optimization for what Huawei says will be power saving technology enhancements of 30% over similar sized batteries in other devices.

GOOGLE EDITION XPERIA Z

Nexus user experience seems to be the new trend in the Android smartphone market. After the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One, rumours have surfaced that the Nexus experience will be coming to the Sony Xperia Z.

Android Geeks reported that the Google Edition of Sony's flagship device can be expected soon. The website claims that a Sony official who wishes to stay anonymous has confirmed that the Google Edition of the device will be announced sometime in July.

Sony had earlier released the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) version of Android 4.2 for the Xperia Z smartphone. This essentially implied that the phone's software would be open to developers and tech enthusiasts who'll be able to use it on their phone and also contribute to its development. However, these users still wouldn't be receiving the latest Android firmware updates like the members of the Nexus family and Google editions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One. Also using an ASOP device isn't exactly user friendly for a regular consumer. Releasing an out of the box stock version of the Xperia Z is a positive initiative for the mass market as well as consumers who happen to be Nexus enthusiasts.

SAMSUNG GALAXY 8.0 & 10.1 TABLETS

KOREAN HARDWARE MAKER Samsung on Monday announced two additional versions of its Galaxy Tab 3, adding 8in and 10.1in models to its lineup.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.0 looks nearly identical to the 8in Galaxy Note , although the firm seems to be pushing the device as more of an entertainment device than one for productivity. It also works as an ereader, Samsung claims, thanks to its "reading mode" technology that adjusts the tablet's backlight for comfortable reading.
